Kingdom of the Wicked

Kingdom of the Wicked

By: Kerri Maniscalco

I am utterly obsessed with this book but I am so upset I read it so early considering book two does not come out until October of this year.

I honestly do not know how to give this book the review it deserves. You have witches, demons, princes of Hell who are the seven deadly sins, you have a monastery brotherhood, dark magic, romance, death, and murder, and a search for a bride for Pride aka the devil.

Maniscalco captures all the abovementioned into an entire well written-thought out plot.

During the first handful of chapters (like maybe 4 or 5) I was worried it would be another slow going book and I was not sure if I could mentally handle that considering I feel all I have read have been slow going lately. But thankfully, shit ending up hitting the fan and set the entire book into a continuous motion. There always seemed to be some form of action happening and it never did get to the point I wanted to put my kindle down because it was so slow-paced.

As a reader, you basically follow along as Emilia solves the murder of Vittoria while she meets 4/5 of the deadly sins, aka Princes of Hell. First, there is Wrath, then Envy, then Greed, then Lust, and then in a way Pride. But while trying to solve Vittoria's murder, Emilia gets swept up into a whole new tidal wave of unending trouble that never seems to stop.

Thankfully there was only one death in the book that hurt and stuck with you. But that specific type of hurt was short-lived considering the ending. Instead, the hurt of losing a favorite character is replaced with betrayal and pain, and overall confusion.

I cannot think of any book to compare it to. Basically, if you like fantasy, demons, and witches, I would say that you would like this book.

It is definitely a 5/5 star read.
